For my first project I decided to work on the Maven’s Restaurant Challenge. The dataset was interesting and challenging. The restaurants in this analysis were all located in Mexico. I can honestly say that I enjoyed diving into this dataset and generating some insights.

Here are my insights I hope you find them insightful.

There are 130 restaurants in this analysis, 23 distinct cuisines, 138 consumers, with the average age of the consumers being 27.30.

Totas Locas Hipocampos has the highest ratings across all areas. With food ratings taking lead. This is followed by Pacifico Puesto de Tacos, and Cafeteria Y Restaurant El comes in third.

More analysis from the dataset shows that most of the consumers are students, with their restaurant budget falling between the medium categories. 59% of these consumers use public transportation.

The data also shows that the most preferred cuisine are American, African, and Eastern. 48% of the cuisines sold in these restaurants are priced at the medium level. This makes sense as 66% of the customer budget falls with the medium category as well.

67% of the restaurants do not offer alcohol servicers and 73% do not allow smoking in the restaurant.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • From the analysis, an investment in Totas Locas Hipocampos will very likely be profitable.

  • It is advisable for the pricing of the restaurants to remain at Medium and Low levels. As this comfortably falls within the budget range of consumers

  • The preferred cuisines by consumers are American, African, and Eastern. More investments in these cuisines will likely pay off.

  • Smoking is not allowed in most of the restaurants, and alcohol services are not provided. The doesn't seem to affect patronage. These restaurants can continue with these policies.
