This is an analysis of Mavens Toy Store sales records.

These sales records contain sales transactions for 2017 and 2018. The total sales for this period were $14.44M, with a total cost of $10.43M and a profit of $4.01M. 1M unit of items was sold in this period.

Drilling down shows that stores in the downtown location make the highest sales, with totals sales from that location being $8.22M, which is about 56.9% of the total sales from all the stores. Stores in the commercial location record the next highest number of sales which is $3.28M which is 22.7% of the total sales. There is a serious gap between the location making the highest sales and other locations.

The month with the highest sales was April with $1.51M total sales and 113K units of items sold. The month of Oct records the lowest number of sales, with sales being $623.87K and units sold being 48K.

The toys product category has the highest number of sales and the highest number of profits. It also has the highest cost of sales. The total cost for this product category is about 78.4% of sales. The electronics products category made total sales of $2.2M and a profit of $1M. The total cost for this product category is about 54.5% of its sales. Arts & Crafts, Electronics, Games and Sport & Outdoors categories all made $2.2M in sales, but electronics made the highest profit among these categories.

Lego bricks bring in the highest sales figure, the cot associated with this product is also quite high. Colorbuds also brings in a significant amount in sales value. With the total cost being 46.8% of its total sales. This means 53.2% of the sales for colorbuds is recorded as profit.

Sales by store name shows that the store with the highest sales figure is Cuidad de Mexico 2. However, when you drill down by location, you find that Cuidad de Mexico 2 makes the highest sales at the airport, Hermosillo 3 makes the highest sales at the commercial area, downtown has Cuidad de Mexico 1 making the highest sales and the residential area has Cuidad de Mexico 3 making the highest sales.

Putting the visulas together gives us this:

RECOMMNDATIONS

  • Toys that bring in the highest number of sales has a significant amount of cost associated with the sales. Store management should investigate methods of cost reduction for this category

  • Products from the electronic category generate more profit than other categories. This is because the cost incurred from this product category is not as high as other categories. Management should come up with marketing strategies that will increase the demand for products in this category. Product from this category should also be sold in all locations and stores.

  • Sales in Oct reduced drastically. Management should investigate and find out the exact reasons for the reduction in sales. Sales from March to July was quite high and steady. Management could investigate the reasons for the increase in sales and try to replicate finds to October and other months recording lower sales.

  • The managers and sales reps for stores with the highest sales could be given some form of incentives to enhance performance and increase sales.

  • None of the stores recorded a loss. This is good and must be maintained.
